Year 2's Crossbar Cup
On Wednesday eight children from year 2 took part in the Crossbar Cup.
The children played seven games in total. They got through the group stage and then took part in the final where they were beat 2:1 in the last second.
The staff were so proud of how the children played and adapted for each game.
Shuffle Up Day
We had a lovely afternoon with all the children that will be in Class 2 next year.
We created art in the style of Kandinsky's Concentric Circles. We used lots of different mediums.
We cut strips of paper to create a collage picture and then used the ipads to try to recreate it.
We has a wonderful afternoon at Forest School. We went bug hunting, climbed, explored, dug holes and jumped in muddy puddles.
We made pictures on the ipad in the style of Piet Modrian.
In Computing we used the Paintz app to draw our self portraits.
We started looking at time. The Year 1's thought of activities you could do in seconds, minutes and hours. We found we could clap, jump, spin, and blink in a second but in 1 minute we could do lots of star jumps and run round the climbing frame 9 times. In 1 hour we could eat our lunch and have a long playtime.
In Maths the Year 1's have been working on positional language. They have been learning Left, Right, forwards and backwards. We used Bee bots to move around a grid and followed instructions to navigate a grid.
What a fantastic effort from Class 2 children that completed their half marathon challenge. It was fabulous to see them complete their last mile competing with other local schools. Everyone should be so proud of completing this huge achievement. Well Done!
Year 2's have been creating repeating patterns.
We have been planting foods that we eat.
We all had a wonderful afternoon at Forest School. We dug holes, built dens, enjoyed time around the campfire and explored the forest.
We have been learning about mosques and what happens inside a mosque.
Today we made a mosque using modelling clay and the Year 2 children labelled the different key features.
In Gymnastics this week the children have been working on crab support, front support and the dish and arch hold. The children then worked on a smooth transition from dish to arch.
We started our controlled seed experiment. We planted seeds and put them in a variety of locations with varying conditions. We will monitor these over the coming weeks to see how the various conditions impact on the growth of the seeds.
In gymnastics this week the children have been working on holding a bridge shape and their releve walk. For a releve walk the children walk on the balls of their feet, keeping your body tall and balanced. We tried three progressions with arms to balance, hands on hips and arms extended. We imagined we were on a beam, and this helped us control our movements.
