School Scoops First at Newport Potato Growing Competition.

We are thrilled to announce that our school came first in the local schools potato growing competition and have won £100 for our school.

It's with thanks to the efforts of Mrs Patrick and her team of committed potato growers that we wielded a fabulous crop that weighed in at a massive 4.34Kg to win first place.

The group of children nurtured the potatoes and monitored their growth on a daily basis and are very proud of their achievement.

Newport Show president Richard Maddocks said "The highlight for me has been the Schools Tent. We gave 10 schools a bag of compost and tubers and asked them to grow a crop of potatoes. These were judged and Church Aston Infant School won. They even beat me and I am a professional potato grower."

It  was a fabulous achievement and we're so pleased that all the hard work paid off. The children are now busy looking at what equipment they could buy for the school to enable them to continue to grow produce and share their love for growing with the whole school.

Well done everyone.
